Eclectic Minds features are usually a chance for non D&B artists to rep their favourite tunes in our scene, but this one’s pretty special… This morning Rudimental have unleashed an out and out summer D&B bomb! But with their previous track being deep house, and their sound influenced by a whole range of musical inspirations, they’re very tricky, if impossible, to pin down to one genre.
“We’ve been making music for years,” explains Piers, one member of the London foursome. “Three of us are producers and one of us is a DJ, we grew up in London so we kinda been brought up on everything. Grime, house, jungle, drum & bass, house, garage – it’s all a massive influence. As long as we can tie it together with soul and melodies!”
Soul and melodies pretty much sums up their forthcoming vocal roller Feel The Love…

Available on Drum&BassArena today, it comes complete with remixes from Fred V & Graffix and Cutline… And it screams sun-splashed festivals.
“We didn’t intend for it to sound summery, it just ended up with that vibe, which is a cool happy accident. Perfect timing I guess,” laughs Piers. When it comes to his love drum & bass, however, there were no accidents involved – just the strong influence of an older sister.
“I’m 25, so I was barely 10 when drum & bass was really kicking off,” he explains. “I had an older sister who drip fed me the good stuff. We all had older brothers and sisters who made sure we knew the right music, you know? I still remember the first time I heard the Shy FX remix of Ray Keith’s Chopper and I’m a massive Roni Size fan as well. He’s so musical! More recently, High Contrast has been killing it for me for a long time.”
The man clearly knows his D&B. Listen and download Feel The Love here.

Roni Size – Brown Paper Bag

“The double bass, the rapping, the massive mash of jazz, jungle and D&B. This was a benchmark for me in terms of listening to D&B. I think it was pretty influential on the scene too. I love it.”
DJ Die & Interface – Bright Lights [Rockers Remix]

“This is amazing! It starts with this incredible funk sample and it just drops into something very hard and busy. I love the contrast of soulful melodies and old school styles. I remember being in a festival going mad to it. Lots of great memories!”
Shy FX – Wolf

“It’s a choice between this and High Contrast Kiss Kiss Bang Bang but this is a total classic jungle anthem. That high end sound at the start, those freaky samples, that wolf cry. What else can I say? If I’m in a rave and this comes on, I’m going crazy for it.”
