Last month saw Icicle announce his first release of the year was dropping on his Entropy imprint, and we can now reveal it’s landing on the 15th of February as a Beatport exclusive.
Entitled ‘Turn’, the EP is a 4-track excursion into raw, stripped back beats from the man himself, and we’ve got the exclusive premiere of the title track. Wrap your ears around this beast of a tune…
Following last year’s Deep Dreaming with Proxima, it’s the third full EP release on Entropy Music, and sees him summoning the deep, brooding, 90s-era of D&B – also recruiting long-time collaborator and friend Alix Perez on the twisted sounds of Days.
In his own words:
The release came together quite organically, and to be honest, it took me a while to get right! All 4 tracks in their own way pay a kind of homage to Optical, Jonny L, No U-Turn, Ed Rush & Konflict. That in itself has been done many times but right now I felt ugly, edgy, simple and bare rollers were missing a bit from my sets again so I set out to make some myself!
It feels like people are getting a bit tired of the harder stuff which has been doing so well the past few years. For me personally, having done music full time for 12 years I just find it harder to be excited about music, therefore you always tend to go back in time a little and ask yourself what it was that drew you to the music in the first place – and that’s how this release came about.
After a relatively quiet release schedule in 2018, Turn is a snapshot of where Icicle is at creatively right now, and is a truly exciting sign of things to come from the talented beatsmith.
