To celebrate the release of Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon’s massive new release on V Recordings, we caught up with Serum to get his top 5 tracks on the label.
Before we dive in, get this diabolical production in your ears…
And here’s Serum’s top 5:
DJ Krust – Set Speed
Such a simple tune but full of funk and groove. The way Krust builds it up and down by using just the drums, a single bass sound and a few samples is pure magic…
Scorpio – Li Li
One of the catchiest basslines of all time and really great layering on the drums. It also has bags of those odd little filtered sound effects that used to blow me away in Die and Roni’s tracks.
DJ Die – Special Treat
A real builder that takes a good 2 minutes before the main bass comes in. I really miss this kind of structure in tracks nowadays. It’s gritty but very classy at the same time.
Adam F – Brand New Funk
Another track that has that trademark V combination of soul with a hard edge. A true masterclass in building a vibe.
Roni Size – Fresh
This is a great track to sit and listen to at home because it’s a solid piece of music rather than a dancefloor banger. Producers these days would make several tracks out of the number of ideas in this tune.
Take My Breath Away/ In Too Deep is out now on V – Get it here.
