What are your plans for this Friday?
Unless the answer is ‘helping Santa wrapping presents’ or ‘knitting jumpers for the elderly’ then we insist you join us for our annual Christmas rave-up!
As hyped by our previous features with Phace and Randall, our bash will be held at a secret warehouse location in London, and this year we’re pulling out stops like they’re luxury Christmas crackers. So many, in fact, we’ve asked leading dubstep crew GetDarker to give us a hand. The end result is a killer multi-genre bass line-up that doesn’t just tick every rave box, it wraps them up in shiny paper and puts a little bow on them.
Don’t believe us? Just look at this line-up…
On the D&B tip we have (deep breath)… Roni Size, Calibre, dBridge, Artificial Intelligence, Phace, Randall. Meanwhile in GetDarker’s arena we’re playing host to Loefah, Oneman, Artwork, Todd Edwards, DJ EZ, Youngsta, Darkside and Tunnidge.
We checked in with Artificial Intelligence to see whether they’re down with the warehouse vibe, and what they’ve got coming up…
“We can’t wait for this!” says Glenn AI. “The first big rave we played at was Homelands back in the day. It was a bit scary stepping up to a crowd that size for the first time but once you’re away then it’s party time! Naturally we’ll be catering for this with a full on party set. We’ve got so much new material! We’ve never had this much new material to try out… Watch out ravers!”
He’s not lying, D&B fans. Artificial Intelligence HQ is positively infested with freshness. To the point the duo are enjoying a rather unique position with four of the biggest labels on the scene. But first, a very special project with the hot-to-trot Ayah Marar: out December 10 on Pilot, they’ve written the beats for Ayah’s next big single: The Raver.

“Very excited about this one,” explains Glenn. “We did a remix for her last track Follow You. Ever since then we’ve said we’ll have to do a track together. We kept sending each other ideas and I eventually sent her this track which I’d actually sent to Andy C for Ram. Andy was already loving the track, Goldie was hammering it, too. It was very close to being released then Ayah got back with ‘this is the one for me!’ and the rest is history.”
The rest is history and AI’s future is looking pretty flipping bright, too. Hot on the heels of The Raver comes Mind Control, a blazing speaker buster on V with vocal skills from Dan Bowskill. And in the new year we can expect material on both Shogun and Metalheadz. They’ve also got a remix of super-hyped MC Scrufizzer on Ministry Of Sound, a vocal project with legendary chanteuse Kathy Brown and are currently in discussions with Ram, too!
With backing from the biggest of guns, 2013 looks set to be a vintage for AI. Can’t wait to hear their new material? Then book-in for our massive Christmas party with GetDarker where there’s a strong chance you’ll hear AI play some of it. See you there!
