Formation Records Remix Competition

Formation Records Remix Competition

What other label can you think of in the world of drum and bass that’s covered 25 years, broken countless boundaries and pushed many genres into places at the time nobody even knew existed? Personally, I can’t think of many which is one of the reasons why it’s such an honour to be hosting the Formation Records Remix Competition for 2016.

What springs to mind when you think of Formation? Is it those crazy, dancefloor tunes from Twisted Individual that sparked the huge deconstruction of jump up? The devastating jungle bassline of ‘The Intro’, the immense hardcore breakbeats of Tango’s ‘Can’t Stop The Rush’ or maybe something a bit more upfront in the style of Sub Zero’s ‘We Came To Entertain’ remix along with the accompanying viral YouTube video.

Whatever your memories of Formation, I’m sure it’s a well shared opinion that DJ SS and his many signings really broke boundaries with his label collective… And continue to do so even in today’s crowded market.

So what’s next? Well let me break it down for you as it’s an incredible opportunity for all producers across the world..

Choose a track from Formation Records or any of its sub labels
Take your time doing this, SS has asked that producers really go in on their selection for their chosen remix
Avoid the likes of Black, The Lighter, Rollidge – you know the drill
No samples or stems are provided. The producers who entered the Micky Finn Remix Competition were up against the same procedure and came up with epic results
You have till 1st June to submit your finished remix
Your track should not be hosted anywhere nor provided to any DJs to ‘road test’
Send your finished remix in a 320kbps MP3 to jamie@section23.co.uk

And that’s not all, SS has specifically noted that if your remix is good enough then it will be considered for release. How often does this type of opportunity come about? Imagine this set up in 1994 – it wouldn’t exist!

Good luck and please do share this post with anyone you think would be up for the job!
