REEEEEWIND! There is no better dancefloor victory cry. The DJ has just dropped a serious bomb and every single person in the club knows about it. The crowd, the MC, the DJ; a rewind is undiluted vindication that the selector’s chosen the perfect track for that moment and everyone is behind them.
It’s also the name of a brand new powerhouse trio. Chances are you know the men behind it. But for now, as it always should be, it’s all about the music. And a name that’s already caused a little confusion.“Hahah, it’s a killer,” says the most talkative member of the trio. “We picked the name as a joke but it can get messy. Actually we were in the Drum&BassArena office the other day. I played a tune and said to Risky ‘this is a Rewind tune!’ He was like ‘yeah man, rewind!’ and the whole office started shouting rewind, demanding the tune gets played again.”
They can expect plenty more confusion like that in the future thanks to their consummate musical methodology. With the three members bringing different inspiration and ideas to the studio, you can expect all manner of styles from speaker-kicking D&B rollers to dubstep to garage to anything else that fits their “dancefloor power and musicality” formula.
Here’s just a taste of what’s in store…

And if you like that, their debut is available right here. Expect more on labels such as Frequency, Titan and Ganja in the future. In the meantime, we asked the guys to give us their top 5 rewind tunes… And whether they knew if there was a science or secret to such victorious dancefloor moments.
“What makes a rewind tune?” Rewind member number one asks. “Well it’s got to be fucking amazing! There’s no particular science or system or code, it just has to be seriously good. That’s how I see it anyway. People want to hear it again – that’s what it’s about. It’s about the drop. If it drops sick then people shout rewind. Simple!”
Simple… When you know how. Here are five different rewinds from five totally different genres – each one celebrating Rewind’s exciting blend of styles.

Dillinja – Fluid (Test 2)
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flxfYBpAZoQ
“This changed everything! Without Dillinja we wouldn’t have the sound we have today. Back in the day you’d play a tune alongside one of his and it would sound shit. The bass was twice as loud. The drums were twice as loud. He crunched things and pushed things further and went against everything that people thought they knew. It took years to get people to catch up. Years. If you’re not doing it like this, you’re not doing it right. Get into this style or get left behind. It started with this… And as a result it’s a massive rewind!”
Deadmau5 – The Reward Is Cheese
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QY087RDlxg
“If it wasn’t for Deadmau5 I don’t think I’d be listening to any house music. His production standards and whole approach took things to another level; in a similar way to how Dillinja influenced drum & bass production. The techniques and sounds he uses have infiltrated so many styles and sounds. Man, I don’t even think dubstep would sound the way it does without him. Plus this is funny; there’s a great sense of humour to what he does. Especially this. House music doesn’t get rewinds much, Deadmau5 tracks will see that they do…”
Double 99 – Rip Groove

“Instant rewind material… From the day it came out onwards, whichever version you play – instrumental or the vocal version, this has all the right elements and just works a treat. I remember it being huge at the time; just as garage was crossing over from the dark side. It’s one of the few tracks from that time that has truly stood the test of time. Rewind every single time!”
Flux Pavilion – Bass Cannon

“That bass! Just check the video. Learn from it. Play it! If you’re not getting a call for rewinds and your crowd aren’t getting their faces blown off by the bass you’re doing something very very wrong!”
A Guy Called Gerald – 28 Gun Bad Boy
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oht-JaL-8VY
“This is a tune that I’ll never forget from back in the day. It got rewinds then and, drop it at the right time, it’ll get rewinds now. This was well before jungle, you know, but still well ahead of its time. It was different to everything else at the time, too. A good different! I’ve recently timed it up to play in modern set… It just worms into your head, I don’t think it’s ever left mine to be honest.”
