It’s been a busy old week here at Drum&BassArenaBlog. We’ve launched a massive DJ competition with Pioneer, we’ve given away guestlist entry to One Nation, there’s a super-cool Dimension boxset up for grabs, we’ve chatted to old school rave dude Ramos AND we’ve had an exclusive from DLR. And it’s not even Friday!
So much cool stuff and it’s not even Friday yet. So let’s do a little victory dance. It’s called the ‘Shak Out’ and Dr Meaker’s going to tell us all about…
How does one shak-out? Please provide some directions!
“I found the sample for Shak Out and it reminded me of an old Ragga Twins tune from the early 90s. I remember in the video they did that steppin’ dance move where you lift each leg up high, one at a time. It’s hard to explain it in words but you’ll know it when you see it.I suggest you type it in YouTube and watch how they dance in that video. It’s a classic video of London in the early 90s. All respect to the Ragga Twins!”
We think he means THIS…

While we’re chatting videos, we need to show you this, too. It’s Dr Meaker’s very own Shak Out. Flipping the switch from their usual D&B styles, their latest release for Sludge is on a dubstep flex (sorry D&B purists) and it’s rather trippy. Literally…

Fancy a little more Dr Meaker action? They’ll be performing at Bristol’s Colston Hall tomorrow. A unique event with a very exciting twist, it pitches some of Bristol’s best bass talents against a crack
“It’s called Adhesive,” says Meaker. “It’s a collaboration of electronic artists with a live orchestral ensemble. We are playing alongside Roni size, Interface, Javeon McCarthy, Laid Blak and Joker amongst other Bristol heavy weights.”
Old school meets new school – just like the inspiration for the Shak Out.
