It’s time for staff picks and this week they are courtesy of Ben who manages all our compilations. Ben can also be found DJing and producing under the name BMK. With guest spots in global festivals and nightclubs, plus his own internet radio show, he lives, breathes and sleeps his work!
Check out his top picks for this week and what he had to say:
Coda – Shodan (VIP) – Exclusive on D&BArena Anthology 2
Coda has been going from strength to strength and I love this VIP. He has had previous releases with Zen & Serum which has clearly helped him up his game, and in my view he is without doubt a star of the future. This VIP is just immense and should be in everyone’s box – from minimal to jump up DJ’s. His minimal jump up approach is reminiscent of the old days of Ed Rush & Optical – Alien Girl and Jonny L – Piper (Grooverider Mix) which I still love to play to this day. I know he has plenty more in the pipeline and I am looking forward to seeing his next move.
LSB – All Of My Love (Technicolour & Komatic Remix)
This remix is truly amazing! The original by LSB was a firm favourite and a regular play on my radio show but this remix just blew me away the first time I heard it. Technicolour & Komatic are now firmly in the limelight thanks to signing to Shogun Audio and I couldn’t be happier for them. They are consistently on top form and every track they do seems to supersede the last release. Technimatic, as they are now known, continue to bring the best in liquid rollers and there is no-one better out there at the moment doing this kind of thing.
Calyx & Teebee – Pure Gold (Feat. Kemo)
What needs to be said about Calyx & Teebee? They are unquestionably some of the best D&B producers in the scene and I cannot wait to get my hands on the new album ‘All Or Nothing’ next week. It was tough to choose between this and the top track on the new album ‘Heroes & Villians’ but I think this one just wins out. Reason being I have always been a massive fan of Kemo since tracks like Global Enemies & Deez Breaks, and once again he didn’t disappoint on this. Plus I’m always a sucker for a live sounding bass. Bring on the album!
Catch Ben on www.bassdrive.com every Friday 8-9pm GMT
He will also be DJing in Vienna, Austria on the 9th November with Zen & Serum – More details on Facebook Events.
