We’ve all had that moment where we fall in love with a track, have it on repeat, and get to that point where we’re bursting with excitement to be the first to show it off to our mates, who you know will appreciate it as much as you do.
Then the moment comes… a group of people stare blankly at you as the tune builds for over a minute, and you’re left standing there going “wait for it… it’s coming up… ok after this bit… trust me… just wait!” The hype seems to fizzle out like a dud firecracker you expected to explode with sparks and a loud bang. Your mates start to talk amongst each other losing interest. The drop comes and goes, the suspense is completely lost, and you’re left feeling deflated and like you need a new bunch of friends.
Now enter Spotify… They’ve launched an interesting web-based app entitled Where Is The Drama? that analyses the audio dynamics of a track and highlights the largest rise in volume within it, taking you straight to the crescendo.
In a society where time is precious, and our attention spans seem to mirror that of a 6-month old baby, this is an intriguing way to cut straight to the chase.
Then again isn’t the magic within a piece of music contained in the way it progresses? That’s for you to decide.
Check it out for yourself and see what you think.
