With Med School now in their 11th year of operation and gearing up for a seriously busy 2017 including their London residency at The Bridge, we caught up with the team to get an insight into some of their favourite places to host events over the years…
fabric
Our first time hosting room two at the iconic London venue was as epic as we could have ever imagined. The dancefloor was packed out and jumping right until the lights came on at 7 in the morning. It’s always such a pleasure to work with fabric; the setup is immaculate and that sound system is simply ridiculous – the perfect occasion to kick start our ‘Ten Year’ celebrations. We’re all extremely happy their doors have reopened.
Roxy
Hard to find words to describe just how much we love Roxy, Prague. There’s something truly unique about the whole experience; the energy inside that place leaves you buzzing for days. This was our second visit and to mark the ‘Ten Year’ anniversary of the label, we put together a special b2b showcase of the Med School roster…. and safe to say it went off! Huge love and respect to Lenka and the Roxy crew.
Let It Roll
This was our first ever festival appearance – and what a place to start! We hosted the Saturday night and loved every second. It was a huge honour to be invited to takeover a stage at Let It Roll – that festival deserves every bit of praise it receives…and it has to be said, the Czech Republic feels like perfect home for a drum & bass festival of this size – enormous, loud sound systems that run until 6am + a much more relaxed feel than most other festivals, certainly those in the UK. Something about the whole experience feels rebellious, which given the history of the sound is an important thing to keep alive.
Outlook
We kick-started our Sunday with a midday boat party: b2b business including everyone on the Med School lineup…. and it was insane: the perfect environment for everyone to loosen up and spin some classics… everyone (artists included) went absolutely nuts for the whole 3 hours. A real highlight of 2016. Later that night was our takeover at the Garden Stage – we were up against some pretty big competition as the likes of Stormzy, Kurupt FM, Dub Phizix and Benga were playing at the same time on other stages, but we still held a packed out crowd… even when a crazy thunderstorm hit at 5am people kept on dancing. This show was a really significant moment for the label as it really felt like we’d come of age and made steps outside of D+B and into the wider bass-music world.
Hospitality In The Park
An epic day for everyone involved in the Hospital and Med School family. The atmosphere was incredible all day and night. Everyone on the bill absolutely nailed it – and it was pretty special to have The Erised come over from Ukraine to play their first ever show in the UK.
Moscow
There’s something seriously amazing bubbling away in the world of Russian drum & bass – the whole approach is completely different to the UK sound, so it was exciting to be able to team up with the KOS.MOS crew and put on a show that showcased some of the very best in Russian talent and our artists from the UK: The furthest we’ve ever been from home – and a fantastic way to end the year!
