TR Tactics have recently stepped up on Addictive Behaviour with The Clamps, to contribute the mighty ‘Topology’. Paired with L 33’s ‘Badman’ – not to mention a recent lethal live bash – it’s a pretty lethal place in which to be all round.
TR Tactics how’s things?
Hey. We’re fine, thanks.
This year was actually very good so far. We were travelling to our first gigs outside of Austria and also had some special ones inside our country too. We got to know lots of interesting people and besides all this we also had a lot of fun in the studio. So, we have just had a great time.
This new track is a total stormer… it really raises the hairs on my neck!
Yeah, it’s definitely a heavy one and we just love the tune. It began as the guys from Addictive Behavior came up with the idea of another vinyl-release.
They asked if we would like to work in collaboration with any other artist to make a tune for this 12-inch. Because we had contact before and we really like his work, we decided to ask The Clamps if he would be up for this. He was happy with the idea and so we started working for it.
The funny thing is, that we never had any spoken conversation about the working process and we are also working in different programs, so we were just sending around files and some thoughts and suddenly the tune was born.
Why the name? ‘Topology’. It’s an interesting choice and wondered if it had anything to do with warping or redefining… maybe it’s inspired by the sound?
To be honest, it was Julien from The Clamps who gave ‘Topology’ its title and we guess it was mostly because of the vocal.
But for us, the word has a complete new meaning from now on.
Speaking of inspired: who inspires you guys?
Well, you can be inspired by nearly everything when you walk through life with open eyes and ears. We feel that inspiration comes from your mind, in the moment and how you can imagine certain things.
Music can lead you through life and in D&B it’s that strong power. Which gives us so much passion.
We also like other forms of art like illustrations and graphic art… but the best way for us to express ourselves is making music.
Are you working on more material as we speak?
Besides this release on AB, we also have a four track EP, which came out on the Austrian Label Mainframe in the last few days, including a fifth free bonus tune. And of course we already have started some fresh things, which you will hear more about in the beginning of 2016. Be prepared!
What sort of material comprises the TR Tactics sets these days?
We just always want to make sure, that we have a well balanced, but also dark and heavy selection. We usually align our sets on the new stuff, but also we like to play some older classics and of course our own tunes.
Where’s some cool places to play?
Of course big clubs are cool so, for example Storm-Club or Arena Vienna are great locations to play. Not to forget, that we had a great gig at Let It Roll Winter last month, but in the end it’s the vibe that counts and even the smallest party can be totally wicked.
Back to the warping of sound thing can you tell me five tracks that really play with the template of D&B, things that freak you out, that astound you in music.
Just to name five favorites at the moment…
Agressor Bunx ‘Tommy Gun’
L 33 ‘Manipulate’
BSE & SOM ‘Ego’
Noisia & Upbeats ‘Dustup’
and Pythius ‘Driveyard’
In general we love to listen and discuss about new sounds and how they may have arisen. The sound we like the most is definitely neuro and experimental material and there are many tunes like this we love in different ways.
This is a great ep, can’t believe the L 33 tune too… so what last words have you for us?
Yeah, it is great and all we can say is, that we are very happy and proud to be a part of this release. Hopefully all the people will enjoy it as we do.
Thanks TR Tactics.
Thank you. It was as always a pleasure.
