Total Science found time in their hectic schedule to let us know all about the recent Classified Vol 1 ep on CIA. And about Mako’s cats. And the Bristol Hum.
It’s a great array of people on this ep: Calibre, Mako etc so how did the plan come together, or was it simply organic?
Well, we wanted to make sure that the Classified series had quality throughout out so the plan was a conscious one but the way the tracks came about was very organic and not forced at all.
The music just came in at the right time.
The Chroma rmx sounds great.
We’re big fans of the boys and thought with their oldskool approach to making beats they would be perfect for the job and so they were!
… what’s the NAME of that break in that tune btw? I think I have NOT known what it is for 15 years at least!
It’s the classic Dyke & the Blazers ‘Let a Woman Be a Woman And Let a Man Be a Man’, well-used by Digital & Spirit on ‘Phantom Force’ among others!
Mako has smashed this, his tune is astonishing. btw you guys hang out in Bristol at all?
Doing a studio session with Stephen, Jay aka DLR, T-Dog and Ethel (Mako’s cats) a year ago was a big factor in us moving here so we like to hangout as much as possible, along with S.P.Y, Break, Hydro, Fields etc.
It’s great to be in a spot with so many great producers.
Tell us about Calibre’s involvement here…
We’ve been friends with Dom for years and have been putting out his music since the early 2000’s. He gave us a CD at sun and bass which he had f*cked up by writing in biro on it.
We could only hear the intros of most tracks but could hear they were pretty special. Took him about another month to finally get us the CD over so we signed ‘Stoned’ straight away plus an EP.
… and this leads me to ask about forthcoming activity on CIA
As we said, we have a Calibre EP coming, an Ed.it EP, Voltage is working on another EP for us, more in the Classified Series plus more music from ourselves.
As Total Science we’re just finishing of a Metalheadz EP, plus a bunch of collabs with Digital & Spirit, Nymfo, FD, Onemind and Quadrant & Iris.
Got any good/recent road stories? None of that ‘what happens/stays on the road’ stuff either. Paranormal activity, death, flesh eating viruses please.
We did think we’d woken an evil spirit back in November as we kept hearing this banging late at night but it turns out it was the lovely old lady next door smashing a broom against our wall.
She could hear an awful noise all day and all night and thought it was us when it was actually the Bristol Hum.
Look it up!
