Positive Vibes: A chance for DJs to share three musical moments that are guaranteed to put the feel good flex into overdrive.
Every now and again there comes a time in one’s life when you have to ask “where’s the fricking mosh pit at?”
This week the answer will mostly be… Wherever the hell TC’s Bass By The Tonne is playing. A monstrous stepper that kicks and punches with metal aggression before dropping into a wholesome trancy break, it’s a big bullet with many a dancefloor’s names written on it. And until recently it was actually two totally different tunes-in-progress… Before TC had the idea to fuse them together. Or, as we prefer to describe it, ‘do a cut n’ shut’.
“You can’t say that, man!” laughs TC. Too late we already have; but it’s meant in the best possible way: This type of sonic ruthlessness is dangerous. It’s also just one of a family of four with other hugely contrasting sounds. From the outright ugliness of Psyco to the stadium-strutting Times Change, Bass By The Tonne oozes positivity.
“Every tune has potential,” TC considers. “They just have to have memories – it’s all about what the tune means to you. All positive tunes remind me of important people in my life and good times I’ve had with them. I think it’s the same factors with all forms of art you experience; where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? These are what matters when it comes to positive vibes.”
We couldn’t put it better ourselves….

“This is my girlfriend’s favourite tune! Enough said! It reminds me of her and I love her to bits so this is my top most positive vibe. I’ve even start playing it in my DJ sets; I have to play it to keep her happy. One version goes from 140-173bpm so it’s really handy from going from the slow stuff to the fast stuff.”

“I sent this out to a few people about a year ago but it’s properly building now. Some tunes take a while to settle in and get recognised and this is one of them. I’d been really inspired by moombahton and really wanted to push it into a D&B style. I didn’t really know if anyone would like it or get it but the reaction’s beginning to tell me otherwise. That’s definitely a positive vibe!”
Adele – Rolling In The Deep [Nu:Tone Remix]

“I love this! I got sent it and really didn’t know if it would work, but I played it in Flex nightclub, Vienna, and it had such a wicked, wicked vibe. Everyone was singing it straight away. I’d kinda hit that moment in the set where I’d been pushing it really hard from the start but the energy dropped down a bit. I needed to chill them for a minute before I could slam it up again and this did it big time!”
