Positive Vibes: A chance for DJs to share three musical moments that are guaranteed to put the feel good flex into overdrive.
First up is chart-busting Fresh, a man whose schedule is so tight we could only prise a cheeky phone call between secretive studio sessions earlier this week. We couldn’t, however, prise who he was recording.
“I can’t say!” he chuckles. “I will be able to soon but just not at this time. It’s for my album and it all seems to be coming together. I’ve done the backing tracks and written vocal ideas and now it’s time to get the right people to record the final vocals. There’s a lot going on!”
Including this week, thanks to the release of Hot Right Now that comes complete with cheeky makeovers by Camo & Krooked, Kamuki, Zed Bias and Zomboy. Future-wise Fresh reckons the album could be with us by August. And in the meantime, he’s given us these three cheerful ditties that light up his world…
The Four Tops – Loco In Acapulco

“When I was a kid I went on holiday to Mexico with my parents. They always used to play this and we were in Acapulco! I always think about being in these mad street parties in Mexico and it just brings back loads of really cool, happy memories. I know it’s a really cheesy tune and it’s very tongue in cheek but I’ve got a silly sense of humour so it suits me. I can’t help smiling when I hear it.”
DJ Fresh – Hot Right Now

“This is definitely putting me in a positive mood right now! The feedback has been really good. Girls always start jumping when I drop this, and it works really well at festivals. It’s a real feel good, happy tune, you know what I mean. I’m really happy with the remixes too. Big positive vibes!”
Fleet Of Foxes – Helplessness Blues

“This is a weird one, it puts me in a good mood but it’s kind of sombre too. It’s very brooding, grim theme about life and, in a way, how meaningless our lives really are. Every time I listen it makes me forget what’s going on around me for a moment or two. It’s quite existential, it takes you out of reality. It’s all about the escapism!”
