Positive Vibes… Tunes that instantly put you in a happy place, no matter what. You could be having the worst day possible, but these tunes instantly make your face achieve ‘grin’ status. We’ve all got them. And this week we’ve asked Cyantific for his. Not that he needs to be put in a happy place: with the release of his Liberty EP this week he seems to be pretty buoyant anyway.
“Never been happier,” he grins. “It’s been a great year. Every year is great but this is especially good. I get to wake up, go to my own studio and make what I want to make. It’s all I ever wanted from music! I’ve had to learn a lot of things, and not all of it has been easy, but that’s the challenge I’ve happily stepped up to.”
Hence the title of his new LP. Liberty sums up where he’s at right now since going solo and setting up his own stall. It’s also crammed with different tempos and styles that you might not have expected from him.
“Liberty means I’m free to do my own thing on my own label. It’s all about freedom; being able to express myself. It is a bit of a risky move,” he admits. “But I wanted to do something a bit different. I wanted to make something that was non D&B but definitely not dubstep.”
Amen to that. Let’s take a look…

“The main riff has been in my head for ages,” he explains. “I played it and didn’t quite know where it came from. I couldn’t figure it out for ages then realised it was Inner City. There’s some Prodigy vocals in there too, Your Love. That was the last bit to go in, that extra thing to bring it all together.”
Throw in two massive D&B cuts – Tomorrow People and Walking Away – and the whole EP’s come together. He doesn’t need them, but let’s see what Cyantific listens to on those rare days he is in a rubbish mood.

“This reminds me of my favourite times in drum & bass. So many exciting things going on, so many influences but this stands out over anything from that time. I love it. Instant great mood.”
Guns N’ Roses – Welcome To The Jungle

“Some days you’ve got to get into that air guitar zone and this presses all the right buttons. The whole album, but especially this. It’s great to put on in the car.”
Tyrone Brunson – The Smurf

“A really positive, 80s electro tune. Instant smile power. The vibes speak for themselves really…”
