Match Of The Deejay: Week Nine
The rules: Each week The Risky goes against a guest DJ to predict the forthcoming weekend’s Premiership scores…
They score…
1 point for a correct win or draw
2 points for the correct score
At the end of the season we’ll scan the scores in a bid to find the most accurate DJ in the scene (not including The Risky) and give them the very first MOTDJ trophy!
This week: J Majik
Our previous challengers have been dedicated to their team, but J’s football story is a little more eclectic. He was brought up on Tottenham as his dad knew World Cup winning Ossie Ardiles, but has since developed a more discerning attitude to the wider game.
“I’m a players person,” he tells us. “I’ll tape a Barcelona game and watch it at 2 in the morning and just fast forward to bits where Messi does something fucking unbelievable. That’s what excites me about football. I’m veering more towards Tottenham right now because of young players like Bale. The young squad they’ve got coming through is really impressive.”
Appreciating good football like one might a fine wine, Majik reckons 2011/12 may well go down as a vintage season. Especially for the Premiership.
“Oh the Premiership is the best platform for the best football as far as I’m concerned,” he nods. “Sure there’s some good stuff going on in the Spanish league like Barcelona and Real but the Premiership is where it’s at. There are some great new teams like Swansea and Norwich showing you don’t have to spend stupid money on players. It’s more exciting than it’s ever been.”
The same can be said for J’s schedule. On side with his longstanding compadre Wickaman, their EP Behind The Mask is due next week. Complete with collaborations with SuddenDef and Peshay, it’s four tracks heavy and full of dancefloor gold.
“Expect more of that,” he tells us. “Infrared is coming back! After about five or six years of not putting out much music we’re going full scale ahead with a release schedule that’s already got 10 releases. We’re bringing in the old sound we used to have before. We’ve got artists like SuddenDef who was on the very first EP. He got me into it and now he’s back into the music and things have gone full circle. It’s wicked.”
We’ve got their back catalog right here. Back to Match Of The Deejay business and he’s equally enthusiastic with a simple salvo of: “let’s hope I fucking win!”
Commiserations to J Majik… He lost with a humble 4 to The Risky’s astonishing 9! Someone needs to tell The Risky that trophy can’t be won in-house…
Two more weeks to go until the end of the season. Will anyone beat Neil Horizon’s 8? Or The Risky’s 9 for that matter? Tune in on Thursday!
