The Technique monster rolls on: steps up to the skyscraper named 2015 and effectively obliterates it, before striding off to new ground… case in point being their rather stacked Drum & Bass Annual 2015 featuring Document One, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Kronology, Crissy Criss, Gradual, Matrix & Futurebound … and MaxNRG who beamed in from the Ukraine to tell us more, including the unexpected inspiration behind his inclusion ‘Far Frontiers Of Space’.
(Check the short mix of the Annual at the end too.)
Max how are you?
Life is great, really. Music gives me inspiration!
I’ve been listening to your track from the Technique album and the thing that got me was the melody, that synth riff… was this the way the track came together, though the melody?
The pulsating synth rhythm that goes through all tune was originally inspired by Marc Moulin ‘Balek’.
Melody and harmony was just coming from my head – I just wanted to bring some science fiction future vibe to the D&B.
The voice sample that gave the name of tunes was found after some searching online, and the voice I found fit well.
For people new to you, how long have you been producing D&B? Has it been a long learning process?
My D&B music experiments began from late 90s, so it was a very long learning process. It never stops.
It’s very interesting to investigate something new in every tune every day.
What things inspire you to create? For example this tune is about space… are there any science/space/exploration topics that interest you?
In this case as you could see it’s all about my sc-fi reading experience – the future worlds of Robert Sheckley, Ray Bradbury, Harry Harrison, Isaac Asimov, Strugatsky Bros… these were my inspiration.
It is a kind of tribute to their creativity
You’re part of the Technique D&B Annual, so what can people expect from the album?
All tracks are really good, have a rave energy and nice sound.
It’s a very significant presentation of current Technique Recordings sound.
Technique seems to have had a big 2015, so what would you say the label has in store for 2016?
I believe more dancefloor smashers and top chart hits!
Have you got some dates lined up, shows and so forth?
Well, I have some local events planned and hope to more in 2016. It would be great to play in UK someday too…
What do you like to bring to your sets, things that no-one else does?
Actually I don’t do any special tricks. Sure, there’s effects and double drops but the main idea of my set is to bring the music I like to the people on the dance floor.
Any shouts MaxNRG?
Big shouts to Derrick & Tonika – my friends and my bandmates of Funk Masters, to my family, to my home city Lviv and my homeland Ukraine!
Ruhaymo Jungle Massive!
What does that mean!?
