LaMeduza‘s strong voice is a recurring, prolific element within D&B, with what seems to be a thousand and one great vocal appearances. Now, make that one thousand and TWO, as she steps up on faded. Ironically, considering the song title…
Hi. Are you Swiss? I never know where you’re from! What’s the scene like where you are?
I am Swiss yes but with Italian and Spanish origins.
The D&B scene is quite vibrant here especially considering how small Switzerland is.
How did you link up with Fade for the new release?
I’ve been a fan of Fade’s sound for some time and got in touch with him to collaborate.
Take us behind the lyrics for ‘Quicksand’? Is it about a life experience you’ve had?
‘Quicksand’ lyrics reflect the feelings and overall mood of what I was going though at the time: ‘I’m looking past the imaginary, the tempting the taunting the teasing… I’m looking past the insanity, rearranging the unexpected… we’ve gone over the situations… we’ve gone over the different options… we’re sinking into quicksand.’
How did you and Fade actually work together? This is a fantastic, full-blooded tune, full of life and creation.
Thank you. Fade sent the instrumental over and I then worked on the lyrics and vocal melodies in my home studio.
What artists inspire you, who out there has inspired you…
Oufff the list is loooong! In D&B the first ever tracks I heard were by London Elektricity, then this got me discovering Diane Charlemagne – massive fan – which consequently lead me to discovering the amazing Deeizm and Jenna G.
Outside of drum and bass I’m a big trip-hop, hip-hop, and jazz lover so artists like Massive Attack, Portishead, A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong… I could go on and on.
What releases that you’ve done that you’re very proud of?
Hard to name just a few here because there are so many collaborations I’ve been honoured to be a part of, to name a few… one of my first ever collaborations in D&B was with Flowrian – ‘Purifying the Evil’.
Then there’s
‘Music Within’ with Optic & BTK –
Particularly keep at heart my collaborations with drummer KJ Sawka, Eveson, Phase – ‘I Mean It’, the first collab where I’m singing in Italian; Utah Jazz, Gerwin, Eastcolors…
So are you a live performer, as in that this is something you regularly do?
Yes I do perform live.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Quite a few collaborations are coming out in the next couple of months and I’m currently recording with two musicians on reproducing my collaborations for live shows.
Any shouts?
Massive love to all producers I’ve worked with along the years and to those I’m currently working with.
Everyone who listens, buys my music or even drops by leaving a message/comment to me online – thank you for the support!
DnB familia one love!
