L 33‘s recent Scream opus takes no prisoners. The sound is as voracious as the sleeve art… possibly an image that will resonate with any typical primary school teacher as well. We spoke to the deadly Bulgarian producer about his release for Eatbrain: on Beatport now, full release April 9.
L 33, hey what are you up to?
I’m working on the Eatbrain podcast.
When did the call to join Eatbrain happen? I feel like the label is running on red right now, absolutely out of control…
I’ve been sending tunes to Jade since forever! So we know each other well.
After signing my first track ‘Comptus’ on Eatbrain I was offered to work on an EP and then an LP too.
Can you take us through ‘Calibrate’ and the creation of it? I feel like this is a great ‘L 33’ tune, for people just getting into you.
‘Calibrate’ is about the long intro and the creepy sounds. It’s less dancefloor than the other three tunes but it works really well on the floor too.
It was the second tune I made for the EP.
Speaking of the floor, where’s some places you enjoy playing?
I really liked Toulouse and Brussels: big ass venues, big ass crowd and amazing vibe.
There are so many great spots. For the past one year alone I visited a lot of places.
Now back to the cover… was this the image in your head when you compiled Scream?
The cover art is all about fitting the leading track of the EP, ‘Scream’.
I think the guys did an amazing job on the art for Eatbrain, once again! That was exact image I had on my mind for it.
Can you take us through ‘Digital Sound’ on the ep?
I wanted to do something which is sounding really high techy and in the same time crowd crushing.
The track is sounding quite aggressive, and that’s what I’ve wanted to achieve.
And ‘Oscillation’, I have to ask are you inspired by technology itself? As in technology that may be unstable or a bit worrying?
I think the whole EP is inspired by the technology as it’s sounding quite robotic in a good way. Ha ha.
What D&B first ever inspired you?
Can’t really remember. But I’ve always been into the harder sound.
What D&B continues to?
Deffo the new wave of the D&B, the sounds the people never heard before.
What tune is delivering for you right now?
Boston ‘Go With Me’ (feat Solis)… it’s got something quite special about it
Any shouts and live dates?
Big ups to all my D&B friends and the people supporting my music. It’s just the beginning this year, so watch this space.
For the dates, the best way to follow them is to check my fb page.
