The bigger the bass the better!
Amen to that. Kritix are taking no prisoners with their new release on Mayan Audio: rushing straight outta Essex all mad-eyed and brandishing plasma reece rifles: ‘Full Melt/Polaroid’ has dropped.
Kritix, hi what are you doing right now, what’s a quick snapshot?
Just finishing off some tracks ready for testing this weekend; got loads of new projects on the go at the moment and really excited for you guys to hear them!
Speaking of snapshots, what inspired the title of ‘Polaroid’?
While editing samples in the making of the track we discovered that two overlapping samples when played together sounded like an old polaroid camera.
Saying that, now when we think of the track all that comes to mind is intergalactic meteors crashing to the earth!
But ‘Polaroids’ is still a cool name.
I basically listen to you guys and want to be in a heaving club! Is that the main intention?
We’ve always made music for the sole intention of destroying dance floors.
The bigger the bass the better!
Getting to test out our music at regular events always helps us fine tune the tracks to make maximum impact.
Who’s been repping your music on the live front? What DJs?
Over the years we’ve had support from the likes of Andy C, Mind Vortex, Nicky Blackmarket, but in terms of ‘Full Melt’ and ‘Polaroid’, we’ve had amazing feedback from TC, Crissy Criss, Ed Rush, Rene lavice, Mob Tactics and so many more!
So speaking of ‘over the years’ what would you say was the moment it really started to gel as ‘Kritix’… when you first found your flow?
A few years ago we decided to switch the direction we were going in and started to concentrate on the more techy/dancefloor stuff which is our real passion. This was the moment Kritix was truly born and is the sound that we hope will grow.
Back to the release, can you take me behind the scenes of ‘Full Melt’, what inspired it and what the studio sessions were like?
‘Full Melt’ was made before we’d built our studio, so ‘studio’ sessions were more sitting in Phil’s bedroom and playing our ideas… relatively quiet.
At the time we’d just bought a Virus TI and after messing around with some sounds the ‘Full Melt’ bassline fell into place. All the groove comes from the bass so we kept the drums sharp but spacious and finished it of with the well known Walter White sample…
What’s the first thing that respectively got you into D&B?
Alex: For me it was Pendulum ‘Another Planet’. It was my introduction to D&B and instantly took me on a vast journey of twists and turns! I haven’t looked back since.
Phil: Well since a very young age D&B was a big part of my life; my older sister was an avid raver, and some of her friends were DJs etc so it was almost drummed into me. With my love for music from playing guitar as well, I eventually put the two together and began writing D&B.
What’s next from you?
Next up is another single from us ‘Pogo’ backed with ‘Drop it’ on Mayan Audio. We also have more EPs in the pipeline including a track featuring Coppa Mc.
We’re currently residents at club night ‘Regression Sessions’ in Islington. It’s a monthly event full of crazy people and even space hoppers, bouncy castles and ball pits! Come check it out.
We also have some big dates lined up for 2015… so watch this space!
