I think I just spend too much time making funny noises on synthesisers than I do on mixdowns…
Karma‘s unpredictable, maverick style has been lighting up the airwaves and floors of late with his new release on CYN Music, ‘Back & Forth’, coupled with ‘Silhouette’, finished off nicely by a wicked pop-art inspired sleeve you may note! Time to find out more…
I feel this buzzy and creative air surrounding this diverse release of yours: are you hyper in the studio right now?
I’m definitely putting the hours in, I’m trying to start to piece together ideas for an album and decided how it’s all going to string together.
Friction has been supportive of the release I noteā¦
Yeah, my last few singles have been premiered on his show. I’m so grateful for the support and fingers crossed it will continue.
Got to ask, what was the reasoning behind the ‘Back & Forth’ title? I was/am intrigued when I saw that.
The way the bass modulates made me rock back & forth, and it was the first thing that came to my head when naming the tune and it just stuck really!
Can you talk us through the inception and creation of the tune?
That track started a while back, around five years ago. I stumbled across it again I decided it was worth giving a facelift! I’m really happy with the outcome and grateful for the positive feedback it’s been receiving.
I note a collab here, the vocalist on Silhouettes, tell us more?
Emmy J Mac is a vocalist from the same area as me, I’ve heard a few of her songs before and followed her career. She’s an amazing singer and so down to earth and easy to work with. You’ll definitely be hearing more from us in the future.
What would you say the best time is for you to produce? Day, night, Mondays, Fridays…
I’m making music around eight hours a day Monday to Friday. For the time I put in I should really have much more sitting on my hard drive! I think I just spend too much time making funny noises on synthesisers than I do on mixdowns…
The cover art is very typical of CYN and I feel fits the release so well. There’s loads of amazing cover art about this year I think, do you feel it’s important to D&B?
Yeah, absolutely. I’m a massive fan of record labels artwork and it was one of the things that interested me in CYN in the first place. When I search for music online I’m always interested in the artwork and drawn towards it. Obviously the artist and label names are the main attraction but if the artwork’s interesting and grabs your eye, you’re more than likely going to check it out.
You on the road soon, can we check you out?
You can catch me at the Bestival this weekend playing on the Reggae Roots Stage Sunday afternoon 13:15 – 15:45, you can keep up to date with all my upcoming gigs at karma-music.co.uk

And finally what’s a tune you would’ve loved to have seen being produced, any genre any era?
