Excessive studio time can possibly lead to burnout, or it can simply… go off. As is the case with Spanish duo Gradual who’ve been locked down in the studio of late, converging with the one and only Coppa: it’s lethal chemistry to say the least. Best to simply listen and take cover.
Hi Gradual, this is a strong start to the year… studio must have been running hot over xmas?
We’ve been resting at Christmas but we are back at the studio now! Yes!
2016 is starting strong and we are pleased to start the year with the new single on Technique Recordings.
We spent countless hours designing sound, perfecting the mixdown, creating new presets and samples, researching music in general of any genre… you can always find us in the studio with a coffee!
I love ‘Beware’, wow, that has some amazing energy and I always dig Coppa’s energy and platinum steel delivery! And I note his mic’s bi-polar!
We had the honour of working the voices of Coppa and decided to prepare fat Reeses and some punchy drums.
Here’s the result.
Have you roadtested this monster live?
The truth is we have not had the opportunity to play it live, but we want to see the reaction!
‘Swamp’ totally closes in about you… does the title refer to being in a ‘swamp’ of a D&B night in full flow? I mean it’s steamy, nasty etc…
And it is! We took inspiration from the dirty vibe of these places. Press play and you immerse in a swamp of stereo sounds and steamy basses.
What have you learned in production over recent months, what things do you do differently? I mean I’m struck by a lot of the next-level sounds and vibes in this music…
We have learned many details, one after another… about processing sound, pitching sounds, groups processes, musicality, etc.
And which signature sound or figureheads in the music inspire you?
We can say that we are very focused on creating a certain type of sound, something like Mefjus, Phace is what we are looking for.
What’s a tune that has influenced/shocked you in recent times then?
We like so many songs … but, if we had to choose one, we would say Blitz EP from Mefjus. Great songs that contain incredible soundscapes and arpeggiator melody, incredible pitched snares.
What do you guys do on a night off? Always feel you’re hard at work?
Sometimes we have to stop, have a break, drink a beer and have good times with friends. We spent too much time in the studio, more than eight hours per day!
Any shouts and dates/releases to share?
We are already working on the next release and of course this is not the only collab with Coppa. We are looking forward playing this out live soon.
Shouts to DnB Arena, The Technique Crew, Coppa and DJ Hype, and all the people that have supported us.
