Is there a doctor in the house?
Don’t worry… we’ve found three.
Well, they look like doctors. Possibly even surgeons. But we’ve never met any trained medical practitioners who make music as unbridled, energetic, bass fuelled and sick as this.
Signed to Audioporn, the trio – who aren’t actually doctors at all I’m afraid – have only just released their second single together and already they’re smashing America and giving away killer mixes on Drum&BassArenaBlog!
Yup, free mix… Just read this cheeky interview with Ross Mediks and it’s all yours!
I heard you just got back from America?
“Yeah we played in LA two weeks ago. Our first American date. A big festival called Insomniacs. Sub Focus, Hamilton and Andy C played too. A really big gig.”
Nice! All three of you went?
“No! Sadly not. We had problems with our Visas. It was really annoying! Flights were booked on the Saturday morning and our passports were supposed to come back on the Friday but because of riots at the embassy they didn’t let the passports out. We got them back on the Monday. Rob had to do it himself, he had a Visa already. It was a real shame; the videos looked like fun.”
There’ll be other times…
“Yeah, we’re over there for New Years then a little tour shortly after. So yeah, plenty of other opportunities.”
Wow. Big in America already! Is that because of your sound or just plain good management?
“Ha! Maybe a bit of both? We’ve definitely got a sound that Americans seems to be in to. They love the craziness. Especially dubstep. With basslines made of loads of different sounds. We’ve put that style into drum & bass and I think it does resonate with the US crowds, which is amazing. There’s a track on our EP called So Cruel which has got about seven different basslines all chopped into one on the drop. I haven’t heard many tunes that do it before.”
It’s a distinctive sound. Lots of energy! Fast Lane sums that up. There’s some shades of heavy metal energy in it at points. Are you all closet metal fans?
“Ha! Yeah I enjoy metal music from time to time. I played guitar for seven or so years. It was nice to get the guitar out for Fast Lane and put some proper instrumentation down. It makes a change from the computers and software. There’ll be more guitars in future too.”
Gearing towards a live show? Or too soon to say?
“Never say never. We’ve considered it for sure, but it’s a bit premature to say.”
But don’t you live life in the fast lane?
“Haha! Maybe? I don’t know! In a way yes… We’ve all come from other projects. All three of us came together and made the Outbreak EP in a week. 10 weeks later, we’re signed to Audioporn and playing all these mad shows around the world. That’s pretty fast, right?”
Now THAT’S fast lane business! Now then, are you all trained medics? Are you professional doctors who’ve given up on the NHS?
“Hahah, yeah, that’s it. We’re all qualified surgeons! Nah, we were just trying to think of a cool name with potential to do something cool with. Mediks was the only one we all agreed on!”
Ha! How does it work between the three of you studio-wise?
“We’re all from Bristol. Dan’s studio is outside the city, it’s really nice and big so we do a lot of mixdowns there. We do the creative stuff in Rob’s studio and we do things separately then come together and finish them between us. It’s a really cool way of working.”
Nice. What’s coming up next?
“We’re always working on new stuff. We’ve got loads of gigs coming up and some crazy co-labs with people. Massive people.”
What? Who? Tell me!
“I can’t man! Not until it’s all confirmed and release dates are sorted. It’ll be in the new year and we’re really really pleased with them.”
Wicked. Big up on the mix…
“We wanted to make something that reflected what we did live. Lots of craziness, double drops and laser sounds.”
Nice!
