Ho ho ho. Feeling festive yet? Perhaps the second of today’s free Drumandbassarenablog mixes will get you in the mood? Don’t worry, there’s no carols or Christmas songs… It’s just SERIOUSLY slamming!
It comes courtesy of Joe Ford, a brand new artist freshly signed to Bad Taste Recordings. We’re anticipating some big things from him in 2013 and beyond… Just check the exclusive unreleased tracks he’s liberally plastered his mix with. Or check this:

Massive, right? It gets better… He’s a dubstep convert! We’ve lost some great producers to dubstep over the last few years. It’s time to take the power back! Let’s see what Joe’s saying shall we?
Introduce yourself! This is your first release. How long have you been bubbling on the beats?
“About three years. I used to produce under the name Ford. I had some releases, but this is the first thing out as Joe Ford. Bad Taste recognised my earlier stuff but it wasn’t quite ready so they’ve been helping me develop and get things up to their standard.”
Job done. It’s a pretty heavy sound… Tell me about your inspirations.
“I started off in the dubstep scene. Then I started hearing stuff by people like Calyx & TeeBee, Spor and Noisia and really got into the whole neuro thing.”
You’re a dubstep convert? Nice!
“The sound’s a bit saturated now. Everyone’s jumped on that. It’s time for a fresh start.”
What’s coming up next?
“Well hopefully more on Bad Taste, I’m chatting to Chris at Lifted, too. Just more music. As much of it as possible!”
Definitely. You sound northern. Where you based?
“I’m from Harrogate and there’s no scene whatsoever here. I went to uni in Huddersfield and went to nights in Manchester which really inspired me and gave me a proper taste.”
Any DJ residencies?
“No not yet. I’ve only played two gigs. One in Bristol and one in Cable. I’m fairly fresh to the DJ scene.”
One of your first DJ gigs was in Cable? Wicked!
“Yeah man! I was supporting Zed’s Dead. I was shitting it! It’s one of those ones when you’re well shaky but once the tunes start flowing you’re away.”
Well you can obviously DJ. The mix you’ve given us bangs!
“Thanks! There’s a lot of unsigned stuff on there. Stuff I haven’t even had time to name. Loads of exclusives.”
That’s what we like to hear. Tell me, what would be your dream gig?
“To play alongside someone like Spor would be a dream come true.”
Nice. And your dream collabo…
“I’d love to sit in the studio with people like Phace or Noisia. Just to see how they do things would be pretty educational!”
Definitely. You’re in a wicked position. Your first interview. Your first big release. A lot of readers are going to striving for this type of scenario. Any advice for them?
“I guess it would be finding your own sound and not just copying people. They’re always going to do their own sound better than you can. Work out what you want to make. And don’t spam people with average tracks. One good quality demo will get you further than a heap of half-baked things.”
Wise words. Finally, tell us something about yourself that people might not know…
“The First track I ever made was an awful Coldplay dubstep remix. I think it’s floating about on YouTube still…”
