Earlier this month Tantrum Desire released What Is Your Desire… A massive tune with a nagging vocal hook that we haven’t been able to shake out of our ears since.
Then it suddenly dawned on us; every single Tantrum Desire tune has a completely different vibe. Just this year alone the duo have wowed us with 50 shades of bass. From the rolling growler Uncontrolled right at the start of the year to the diesel powered electro spikes of Get With It in the summer to their latest anthem, they’ve kept us on our toes throughout the year. We thought we’d send Jay, the production half the duo, a couple of questions to see what they made of this… And what they’ve got in store in the future.
What Is Your Desire… Big room tune! Please tell us how it came about…
“It was originally a club track that I was personally testing in and out of shows. As time went by I thought it had the potential for vocals, which is when I brought in singer and rapper I-Kay. He jumped in the studio straight away and came up with the concept in relation to our name Tantrum Desire. The title really wrote itself! Some of the sounds I hear in house music inspired me to make the track, elements just before the drop are a good example of this.”
Is it fair to say it’s another new sound and style in your repertoire? You can never predict how a Tantrum Desire release will sound….
“To be honest, as the producer, I never know what that Tantrum Desire sound is! I like to write all kinds of styles of music. I always start from scratch when starting a project and it could depend on a sound I find which could venture off into anything.”
And what is YOUR desire?
“To keep the world going round by executing music, entertaining and bringing world peace.”
Let’s talk about the B-side. I Am Unicron is a bit heavy… Tell us about that. And are you Transformers fans?
“It’s just a fun drumstep track. The voice sample was something I thought sounded cool and threw it in. But after integrating all the bass sounds, I didn’t release that the sample and sounds were able to relate which made it a robotic track. I am a fan of transformers, yes!”
If you could transform into anything, what would it be?
“Probably a plane.”
Moving back to a more serious topic… how has 2012 been for you?
“It’s been such a busy year, but also a great journey. A lot of demands flew in for high profile remixes which took over at the beginning of the year, so I was pretty much in the studio a lot. We’ve been on some great tours and had some memorable gigs this year as well.”
How about the future… can you tease us with any Tantrum Desire plans for 2013?
“I am currently in the studio writing an album which is set for 2013. Alongside this, we’re playing shows every weekend around the globe.”
Finally, where the devil does the name Tantrum Desire come from?
“We combined those two words in relation by how I like to write music really. ‘Tantrum’ is that outburst in the music and ‘Desire’ is to make that music. People started to understand it and thought it was different, it kind of the grew on us as time went by. So we just rolled with it.”
