Next up on Deep Field Audio is southern Spanish mastermind Exodous, dropping something pretty captivating along with equally synergised, engrossing (and forboding?) cover art. Check out the details: even the birds are captivated by the mysterious flow. Time to find out more about him and his world…
Hey Exodous, how’s this year been for you?
Hello! Very good, thank you! This year, everything is going so much better than before. I found a job, started releasing music – all is good!
Can you first off tell me who did your cover art? That’s amazing. What does it mean? Does it say something about the state of humanity vs technology?
Simon Goritschnig over at Spleeen is the artist doing these amazing visuals! About their particular meaning, I think the artist knows best.
I do think that one day technology will bring problems to humanity, as it will dominate the world.
Tell us about ‘Minimal’, love it! It is infectious and totally killer.
‘Minimal’ is a track trying to envelop you into its own atmosphere with all the distortion, fx and various sounds going on that create this special ambience that I really like.
What D&B influences you? What do you love… and what eras?
Well I wouldn’t want to pick any specific era, but of course there’s a bunch of artists that have influenced me in the past and continue to influence me today. Prodigy for instance is one of my favourite groups; they were the ones to introduce me to electronic music. Noisia, Spor, Ed Rush & Optical, Sub Focus and Limewax were the first D&B artists I got to know.
Right now I really like the current music of people like Mefjus, Enei, Emperor, Fre4knc, Signal, Icicle, Double Helix, Amoss, Phace, DLR, Misanthrop and many many others.
I really couldn’t pick one, they’re all incredible artists, and there’s so much to learn from each of them!
So what are five tunes in your head right now?
Double Helix ‘Cue’
Amoss & Fre4knc ‘Oxide’
DLR ‘Ask The Question’
Ed Rush & Optical ‘The Turnover’
Lockjaw ‘Demon Core’
Back to the release, tell us about how ‘Last Breath’ evolved.
‘Last Breath’ came together on one of these days when things just come together naturally. Even in the beginning it was a very flowing track, but over the time I spent working on it it grew better and better, establishing this deep sound that I’m really satisfied with.
The ‘suspenseful’ melody was the last thing I did, and that’s actually what I like most about the tune.
Without any doubt, I think it’s one of my best works so far.
Name something you’ve seen that you like: a film, a video, a work of art…
Blow is one of my favourite movies. I really recommend it.
Say it is the end of time… what is the one thing you would save from your studio and clutch in your hands before THE END OF EVERYTHING.
That’s an easy decision, I’d save the Ableton, the Nexus VST, and of course my newest acquisitions, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 and my AKG271 MKII headphones!
And to continue the theme, any final shouts Exodous?
I salute my colleagues and friends Envolve, and a big thank you to the guys from Deep Field Audio and the collaboration, as well as to Simon for the cover artwork!
Greetings from Spain and big hugs to you all!
