This one goes out to all you lovers out there….
Yup, it’s Valentine’s Day. And, being the romantic types here at Drum&BassArena, we thought we celebrate it with some appropriate music.
We did it last year, too. The Erection Selection… A playlist compiled by you lot on Twitter.
This year we thought we’d flip the love switch and ask the DJs whether they thought love could be found at 170bpm. Our first port of call was John B. Drum & bass’s very own Casanova, his Up All Night is still widely regarded as the quintessential D&Ballad. Powerful yet emotional, like all rumpy pumpy sessions should be. He came back with a few words of wisdom for anyone looking to find love on a dancefloor.
“Sure, but its also important to factor in the ‘smoke and mirrors’ effect on your judgement in a dark and ravey environment,” he warns. “Be wary of the lack of verbal communication due to the bass interference and also reduced sexiness-detecting skills as a result of drink or other substances. So yes, you may end up with ‘one’ – just not necessarily ‘the one’. Unless you’re in Vegas, and wake up to find you’re now married too.”
Wise-words, there. John’s very own ‘business time’ playlist includes Calibre, dBridge, Hybrid Minds and this sexy classic from Adam F…

He reckons if Alexander O’Neil decided to make a D&B track it would win hands down. But until that rather bizarre musical mash-up happens, we thought we’d ask 10 other DJs what their ultimate baby making banger would be. The answers that came back were a range of silly, smutty and gosh-darn soppy. Hold tight for Random Movement’s story – if there was a romantic Hollywood movie about a DJ finding love, it would be based on him!
So here they are. Baby Making Bangers, as selected by your favourite DJs…

Potential Badboy – You’re Mine
“It’s a choice between Golden Girl by Makoto or You’re Mine by Potential Badboy. Two great love songs that feel special when singing it to your partner, which I have done with both tracks…. I’ll pass this tip on to other artists.”

“I love Consequence’s first album Live For Never for a candle-lit dinner soundtrack. For the other side of the coin, Glitchbitch is dedicated to my ex girlfriend! Generally though, I just put my collection on shuffle and hope Wastegash and Mr Happy don’t come up.”

“Whenever I hear this tune I always think of butterflies and little deer running around in the mist of a nearby wood. Women usually cuddle up closer to me when I put this on the record player while sitting by the fire in my aspen ski chalet. Love is a jungle I guess! Tee hee!”

“The girl I am marrying this Saturday was a fan of my music for years before she met me. I happened to be in her area here in Florida and she popped in to see me play, running up to me when I first got there to tell me she owned a bunch of my records and loved all the work I’d done. She really kept my attention throughout the night, buying us so many Jagermeister shots that I lost count. The next thing you know I am making out with her in front of everyone while I’m DJing, crowd going apeshit and all that… I ended up going home with her and staying with her for three days in a dilapidated lake house in the middle of nowhere. The following month after I got done touring, I moved all of my things about 1700 miles from my hometown in Ohio and moved down here in sunny Florida to be with her. Best decision I’ve ever made. Any time I have a moment when I am frustrated with the nature of this music biz, I stop and think about where I would be without it, and how I probably would have never found her if I hadn’t done the music I’ve done.
My hot sexy banger is an oldie but goodie, a classic Calibre tune known as What You Need, off of the Music Concrete album that Creative Source released. Such a solid deep sexxxy roller that just puts ladies in the mood.”

“For me it’s the best ever romantic tune. Perfect choice for Valentine’s Day. I have too many good memories with this track. For example when I am playing at a party and my wife is in club I always put this one especially for her.”

Commix & Steve Spacek – How You Gonna Feel
“It’s smooth and sexy, making good vibrations and atmosphere… Which will help you to undress the girl you want to be naked in front of you. Or it can be a great back ground music for a romantic dinner because it’s not bass heavy, in your face smasher, but more a sublime roller with great instruments and a superb vocal by Steve Spacek. Try it and let me know if it works!”
