Andrey Terekhov aka EastColors beams in to discuss his contribution to the new Requisites outing along with Tiiu, and along with tracks from Phil Tangent, Big Bud, RoyGreen, Protone & Dual as well as Phase… served up on Demand.
Hey Andrey, how’s things, what have you been doing?
Hi Damian, all good thanks, hope you’re also well! Actually I’m quite busy doing new music for Demand.
How have you changed/evolved as a musician in the last year or so?
Being a musician/producer you’re in a constant process to evolve. I definitely made some major changes in my production process, which (hopefully) will greatly improve my music. You’ll hear some soon!
What memorable things have happened to you this year?
Can’t actually name much, I found out that my great-great-grandfather was born in Lithuania, he lived in USSR, but was arrested and killed in 1938 by NKVD.
As you might know it’s hard times in Russia.
It looks like our country is moving back to USSR times with all the war talks, which I definitely don’t support. So I’m feeling a bit pessimistic living in my country at the current state.
Tell us how you linked with Demand for the Requisites… and what is your perception of this release?
I’ve been working with Carlos for many years, and nowadays I do work with him even closer. When I sent him this tune he was really into it and said he’d be building up a bit of a different project where it would fit perfectly!
So this is how it happened. Musically Requisites is a very strong release in my eyes, every single tune has it’s own soul which is very important in modern days bulk of generic music. So I’m really happy to be a part of it.
I love ‘Naked Skin’… I feel this is a really special tune, I love how it evolves, how it moves. The synths/bass sounds are organic – human in feel! fitting the title – and it sounds like it was a lot of fun putting it together.
Thank you! As you might have noticed ‘Naked Skin’ is not what I’d usually do but it was a really fun to produce. Everything started when Tiiu sent me a little sketch with her vocals on top.
I started to play around with it and it naturally progressed into this half tempo beat with a quiet simple but very organic, powerful bass from Trillian which I then used for the first time.
So yeah, I love experimenting and I’m always trying to be open for any ideas!
How did you work with Tiiu? Must have been great: she fits this so well. She is so special in this scene.
She is indeed! I really like working with Nastia. You need to check her other music, it’s very good.
So what is an inspirational tune that you would share with us?
Too many to mention! Just to name one that I’m loving right now: Genius Of Time ‘Juno Jam’! It’s such a great tune, I could listen to it the whole day, every day!
I think that if you’re searching for inspiration you need to search outside of the drum & bass realms. Of course there is still great music but I love to go through all kind of genres and find these hidden gems.
