‘If you take a deeper look around you can see inspiration in every single thing’
Dyl and Paragon have gone IN on ‘Abraxas’ part of the Bassment Beats 2 from Translation which also features Brat Leeks, Cid Poitier and Red Army.
Fittingly we caught up with both of them as the track is premiered, just as we speak.
This track with Dyl is f*cking twisted, the way the sounds shift and change on it, so can you tell us about the tune?
Paragon: It’s one of quite a few tunes we’ve done together which I all like and reckon all have a similar sound and identity. It’s always fun making stuff with Dyl as he’s an absolute nutter who buzzes off crazy sounds… need to do some more stuff soon!
Dyl: Paragon and I… we always like to experiment with the sounds and like in our other collabs.
‘Abraxas’ keeps the dark vibe
What sort of things inspire to get you producing/in the mode?
Paragon: 90% of time spent behind Logic results in absolute bollocks, the other 10% is usually kicked off by one or two strong samples where I’ll then finish the majority of the tune in one sitting.
Apologies to the few people who occasionally get sent some of the ‘90%’ material.
It’s just that making good sounds is f*cking well hard! Basses especially…
Dyl: If you take a deeper look around you can see inspiration in every single thing.
Tell us about Bassment Beats 2, what’s the vibe on the whole thing, for you? What’s people in for when they hear this?
Paragon: Clue is in the name!
Dyl: Bassment Beats 2 is really a wicked EP if you’re looking for something really dark. I want to give thanks to Brian for giving us the chance to release our track on this massive EP.
Has your sound changed over time?
Paragon: Recently I’ve tried not to repeat myself too much but in retrospect that’s turned out to be a hindrance to productivity. From now on the plan is to just focus on making good tunes without consciously attempting to force something fresh.
Dyl: yes, it has. As I said earlier I like to do a lot of experiments trying to get new things
What’s in your head right now?
Paragon: Still reeling from a two hour bath now I’m thinking about curry… can’t decide whether to get a Korai or a Naga.
Dyl: I’m waiting for my next releases keep your eyes on my fb page and trying to work on new tunes.
Back to ‘Abraxas’, if it was a place what would it look like? I feel like it’s a few things, it changes, and some time it’s raining. Very metallic buildings! I imagine.
Dyl: Hmm… good question. I imagine the dark side of our world where people are manipulated to do every move they make and as you said sometimes it’s raining, sometimes it changes and people have the chance to break the line of mediocrity.
Paragon: Dyl’s sounds always take me to very strange places!
Any shouts and live dates for us?
Paragon: Cheers to Brian RS and Dyl for the release and thanks to anyone who likes & supports the music.
Will be playing in room 2 of Nurtured Beatz vs. Proximity, Timbuk2, Bristol on the 28th of this month. If you’re in the area come along & support some hard working smaller labels. I’m also starting a Rude FM show on the 23rd, airing Sundays 12 noon till 2pm, so any producers reading this you know you want to send me some tunes! Thanks to the people involved for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to it.
Dyl: shouts out to everyone that supports me and special thanks to Brian from Translation Records
