Cod3x is about to drop the weighty new threat Destination Point from a great height… best not to be under it when that shadow grows.
Cod3x how are you? What you up to as the year draws to a close?
Hello, Damian. I’m great, thank you. My plans for the end of this year are to release 3 tracks: two of the tunes – ‘Destined’ and ‘Laser’ collab with Micron – will be released on Bad Taste. One more track called ‘Sublimination’ will be released on an LP called Evolutions vol. 3. After this I want to have a great christmas and just enjoy the new year coming.
Where are you based and what’s the scene like near you?
I live in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Scene is not that bad actually. In our city there are many various events including Pirate Station or WODB, and there is one promising fest called The Neural Shock.
My city is called the capital of drum and bass in Russia, but due to various things Russian artists make not so much off their performances.
Take us into ‘Destined’, and what does the title mean?
I just took a vocal sample and looped it, so it turned out very well. To be honest, I don’t quite care about names of my tunes.
Do you believe in predetermined fate?
Ha ha, no, I don’t believe in destiny. I think that everything is in my hands and I can change everything. The most important is not to stand around, but to act and show some effort.
Back to the ep, who is Micron featured on the ‘Laser’, and how did you come to work together?
Micron is my friend from Tallinn, Estonia. We have known each other for a few years now. Last winter he sent me a small cut, I enjoyed it so we completed the track within one or two days.
What’s your favourite type of D&B and who are some heroes of yours?
Mostly I enjoy everything between 2000-2010.
Early Noisia, my favorite Trancestep which is, sadly, gone by now. Great music that was released on Moving Shadow and music on Renegade Hardware, the best times of Bad Company, Pendulum, Spor, Magnetic from Future Prophecies, the amazing Liquid Funk that was created by Calibre and High Contrast. I can go on for hours.
I think right now artists on the scene are a little bit more close-minded than they used to be. It can be said I am slightly stuck in the past.
What are some aspects of your studio you couldn’t live without for any reason, small or large?
My studio is quite humble. I have KRK RP6G2 studio speakers Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 sound card, Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO headphones, old midi keyboard M-Audio KeyRig 49 And now I also have a new great PC with a fast processor.
All of this is within my small room.
What will we see from you in the 2017?
In the middle of January you may expect a release on new dutch label Major League. Also in the first quarter of 2017 there will be two tracks released on Bad Taste as part of their compilation. Also a tune should be out on Renegade Hardware as part of their final LP but I have no idea when.
Any shouts Cod3x?
Shouting my family, friends, fans, Russian Neuropunk crew, BLackout crew. Especially Martin Micron, KloƩ and Michael Vegas from Bad Taste Crew, Maxim Valrus, Rustam & Jae from Magnetude, Alexandra Coreboot.
