How are your studio skills? Whether you’ve only just picked up your first copy of Ableton or you’ve been honing your sonic abilities for several years, we’ve got something that might interest you…
Last year we ran this. Attracting hundreds of entries, it was the perfect platform for anyone motivated enough to make the next big leap to a career in the music industry. It did so well we’ve hooked back up with Community Music to give away double the amount of places on two different day-long music courses!
CM is one of the longest-standing music education and training charities in the UK. Established in 1983, this year marks 30 years of careful youth guidance, helping enthusiastic music hopefuls carve their own unique niche.
It’s worked: over 80 per cent of CM students go on to enjoy a career in the music industry. Some go on to pen number ones for chart-busting superstars. Others go on to set up labels. Others become producers for radio shows. Others into A&R… There’s a wealth of opportunities in this game, and they all start with firm bed of musical knowledge.
CM Courses
Community Music offers a range of courses from special Band In A Week courses to weekly Music Production & Technology sessions. Their major drawer, however, is the two-year long full time foundation degree in Creative Music Production and Business. Teaching you every aspect of the industry from creative production to finance skills, CM understand the entrepreneurial necessities of today’s business and their team of highly knowledgeable tutors provide strictly practical insight and advice based solely on experience.
And we’ve managed to pilfer their skills for two days of free tuition for YOU!
Here’s the deal…
We’ve got two different types of day-long courses you can possibly win a place on:
13 spaces to producers who want to improve their production
13 space to total beginners who would love to build knowledge and skills in this area
This means you don’t even have to have pressed a button on Reason to be eligible for this exciting competition. CM have always looked for motivation over previous experience… If you really want to get into production, this is your chance!
And for those with experience, this has potential to be the final piece in the production puzzle; allow the tutors to help gather the tricks and talents you’ve learned friends and tutorials and consolidate them with some professional guidance.
Neither of these courses are available at CM – they’re two unique days created with YOU, the readers of Drum&BassArena in mind.
Skills you’ll learn on the beginner course include…
– Drum Programming
– Synthesis and Sampling
– Mixing
– Logic Pro
On the day, the winners will leave with an original piece of material and a concise introduction of how to produce music.
Skills you’ll learn on the development course include…
– Microphone Techniques using drums
– Advanced mixing techniques in both hardware and software
– An introduction to writing music to moving image
On the day, the winners will leave with digital files of work to continue using in their own studio time.
How to win a place…
Simple: To be part of Drum&BassArena’s Class Of 2013 all you need to do is email rich@cmsounds.com and explain why you think you should grab one of these places. Whether you’re funny or forthright, CM knows a genuinely enthusiastic candidate when they see one.
The deadline: Monday March 18. The courses will take place later this spring.
