Introducing Total Samples… A fresh-faced kid on the samplepack block who have one simple ambition: to be the leader in bass heavy sample resources.
Brought to you by Disciple – home of Dodge & Fuski, Astronaut, Barely Alive and many more low-end experts – they’ve teamed up with established sample pack brand Prime Loops to create a new series of sample packs aimed squarely at the low end connoisseurs.
With packs from Muzzy, Virtual Riot, Cutline four volumes of their Total Drum & Bass series, the partnership with Prime Loops started with the ambitious gusto they intended. To celebrate, we’ve got three copies of Total Drum & Bass Volume 4 to give away.
To make things a little more interesting than a simple straight up giveaway, though, we caught up with Rob Talbott, Total Samples co-founder to find out a little more… As one third of the Audioporn act Mediks, if anyone knows about great D&B samples, it’s him.
“Firstly, production-ready samples save time… You can get your track going straight away,” he tells us. “But they’re especially handy in drum & bass. Drum sounds in particular are very hard to perfect, so it’s great to be have these building blocks ready while you work on perfecting your own drums along the way.”
They’re a great way of sketching out ideas when your brain isn’t ready for an in-depth sound design session…
“You’ve got to be in the right mood for sound design sessions from scratch, especially when you’re designing for drum & bass where producers have taken things to the extreme realms of creativity,” explains Rob. “Sample packs are great to have just to sketch things out with.”
There you have it: time-saving and creative block-battering sketch sessions. Just two amazing uses of a sample pack that might not spring to mind straight away!
