Ah, jungle… Rusty rattling Amens, razor sharp edits, submarine-heavy frequencies, maximum skankery. If it wasn’t for jungle you probably wouldn’t be reading this: Drum&BassArena probably wouldn’t exist!
To celebrate the seminal sound and its influences on the beats that have blasted us over the last two decades, Drum&BassArena’s forum crew have dedicated their regular production competition to jungle… And they’ve come up with some damn fine sounds!

Find out how to vote below. But first, a few words from the competition organiser DJ Jamie. You may recognise him from this Rep Your Label session a little while back.
“The production forum tend to organise a competition twice a year, this usually stems from a random thread suggesting a competition, then someone will take the lead and arrange it all,” he tells us. “The last successful competition was ‘remix a classic’ which was very well received by all and produced some great tracks. It had been some time since we had arranged a competition and what with suggestions flying all over the place I noticed a few towards a jungle theme. Being my favourite era of the scene I put myself forward to organise it.”
The voting process couldn’t be easier… Listen to all 15 of the tracks on the soundcloud link above (trust us, it’s worth it, many of these tracks are bona fide boomting!), sign up to the forum (if you’re not a member already) and list your top three. The entrants are all kept anonymous and listed in no particular order so you are voting on the beats… And nothing but the beats!
The scores are:
3 points – awarded to your most favourite
2 points – awarded to your second favourite
1 point – awarded to your third favourite
The deadline for votes to be in is 24th June 2012 at 11:59pm
Although a review of your choices is not required, it’s always nice to read someone else’s opinions on your work so please bear this in mind… And believe, the entrants will be watching this thread with nail-biting fervor!
Jamie will be funding the secret prize himself and, in a new twist to the forum production competitions, has also picked three non-forum based judges for added authenticity. Blocks, Jimmy Danger and Drum&BassArena Content Editor (yours truly) will be scoring the tracks and adding our own opinion. All of which will be added to the forum once the closing date has passed.
“The usual format of previous competitions is that forum members vote for their favourite three tracks,” says Jamie. “While this is great in terms of forum kudos, it doesn’t really push the boundaries any further. I really wanted people to enjoy the competition and give them the opportunity to get feedback from people who have had success within the scene outside of the forum – hence why I arranged for the three guest judges. I have known both Jimmy and Block for many years so they were pretty obvious choices – I knew they would also enjoy listening to the output and provide constructive feedback. They are also both label owners so this was an even greater potential opportunity for the entrants.”
So what are you waiting for? Join me, Jimmy and Blocks and check out 15 solid jungle productions and realise the mad production talent that can be found in Drum&BassArena’s very own online community.
